Belagavi Panthers Bio
Belagavi Panthers is a franchise cricket team representing city Belagavi in the Indian state of Karnataka and plays in the Karnataka Premier League (KPL). The new owner of this franchise is Ali Asfak Thara.
Belagavi Panthers have been a part of the KPL since its inception. They were the runners up in the first season of the tournament in 2009-10 and won the KPL in the 2017-18 season by defeating Bijapur Bulls.
Background
The team was under ownership of AR Nagesh and MD Subhas Enterprises. However, the 6th season saw changes in the ownership to a Bangalore based businessman Ali Asfak Thara of Ali Tours and Travels.
Prominent Achievements
The Belagavi Panthers had an outstanding 2015-16 season in the KPL. They had won five out of seven matches played and had lost only one. They topped the table that year with 11 points.
They were runners up in 2009-10 and 2014-15 season after failing to defeat Mysuru Warriors.
The 2017-18 season saw Belagavi Panthers play consistent cricket and make it to the last game against Bijapur Bulls. Belagavi Panthers fielded first, bowler Shubhang Hegde performed very well by taking two wickets, giving away just eight runs in four overs. As a result, Bijapur Bulls could only manage to make 141 runs. Belagavi batsman and Man of the Match, Stalin Hoover scored 81 runs in 51 balls, which contributed to their comfortable win by six wickets.
Career Trajectory of the Club
Having lifted the title once, Belagavi Panthers are still improving to be more consistent on the table. Their win rate in the KPL was not up to par in the earlier season of the league. However, they have maintained a solid performance stat since 2014-15 season.
Belagavi has a combination of youth and experience in their team, with the inclusion of Manish Pandey in the squad they have strengthened their batting line up by a significant amount and with the likes of S Arvind, K Gowtham and Stuart Binny, Belagavi have improved their line for the upcoming seasons.
