History
Jeff and Matt Hardy first began teaming together in 1993. They participated in independent promotions in North Carolina. They won the NWA 2000 Tag Team Championship in NWA 2000. After which the Hardy brothers went on to find the Organization of Modern Extreme Grappling Arts, where they held the OMEGA Tag Team Championship. The Hardy Boyz then signed contracts with the World Wrestling Entertainment in 1998. In the year 2000, the Hardy Boyz were briefly joined by the WWE diva, Lita, and the trio was known as Team Xtreme.
Rise To Popularity
The Hardy Boyz rose to popularity with their participation in ladder matches and TLC matches with The Dudley Boyz and Edge and Christian.
Both brothers also won singles championships during their runs, with each becoming multi-time world champions in their own right. In 2017, they held seven[10] tag team titles from seven different promotions at the same time, including the ROH and the TNA Tag Team Championships, being recognized as the only tag team in history to hold the titles simultaneously. After returning to WWE at WrestleMania 33, and winning the Raw Tag Team Championship at the event, they became the only tag team in history to have held tag team championships from all three major U.S. promotions within a month's span.
The Hardy Boyz Split Up
The Hardy Boyz split up in the year 2002 following Matt Hardy's attack on Jeff due to jealousy out of Jeff's success. After which Jeff was involved in a storyline with The Undertaker, while Matt was relegated to working on Heat. Matt was then joined SmackDown, where he called himself "Matt Hardy Version 1" and the "Sensei of Mattitude". Matt later won the Cruiserweight Championship from Billy Kidman at No Way Out in February 2003. On the other side of the story, Jeff was released from WWE on April 22 for erratic behavior, drug use, refusal to go to rehab and deteriorating ring performance which included constant tardiness and no-showing events. Following which Jeff made his debut for the TNA in 2004.
Return To The Stage
It was an absolute shock and disappointment for the WWE fans and universe when the Hardy Boyz split in 2002. But thankfully, the Hardy Boyz reunited in 2006 and teamed sporadically afterward. They appeared in Impact Wrestling or the TNA as it was called then. They again teamed together as 2011 as members of Immortal. The Hardy Boyz started appearing more frequently from 2014 to 2017.
Finishing Move
The Extreme Combination is perhaps the greatest invention of the Hardy Boyz. Many would argue that it was simply a Twist of Fate with a Swanton Bomb, but the way these two brothers had synchronized it was an absolute treat to watch. This is the best example of two men combining their own finishers for a great tag team finisher.
The Hardy Boyz Managers
The Hardy Boyz joined WWE in 1998 with Michael Hayes as their manager. They dumped Michael soon and went on to appoint Gangrel followed by Terri as their managers. But they soon found their permanent manager in their friend and WWE diva, Lita.
Entrance Themes
The Hardy Boyz initially had a theme produced by Jim Johnston. Then they switched to the Loaded theme by Zack Tempest which is basically the theme they will forever be connected to.
