Austrian tennis player Dominic Thiem who is ranked 19th in the world, upset superstar Rafael Nadal in the semi-finals of the Argentina Open tennis tournament.
Thiem, 22, is seen as one of the great prospects for global tennis. He lived up to that reputation in Argentina by defeating the former world No. 1 and title defender 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (4) on Saturday, reports Xinhua.
Showing serious holes in his game and proving he is still far from the level that made him one of the best players in history, Nadal had a match point in the final tiebreak. But Thiem hung on to come back and win.
This means Thiem will play on Sunday to possibly win the fourth title of his young career against the winner of the all-Spanish semi-final between David Ferrer and Nicolas Almagro.
The winner will go away with $523,400 of prize money.
