The third day of main draw action at the 2023 Lyon Open on Tuesday will have three first-round and four second-round matches. Five seeds, one qualifier and a wildcard will be in action at the ATP 250 claycourt event.
On Monday, the likes of Brandon Nakashima, Arthur Fils and Miomir Kecmanovic advanced to the second round, respectively beating Diego Schwartzman, Zhizhen Zhang and Oriol Loca.
Without further ado, here's a look at how the following four matches in Lyon could pan out on Tuesday:
#1 First Round: Sebastian Baez vs Marton Fucsovics
Sixth seed Sebastian Baez opens his campaign at the Lyon Open against Hungary's Marton Fucscovics.
World No. 44 Baez is 13-13 on the season, coming off a first-round exit in Rome last fortnight and having won the Cordoba title earlier. Meanwhile, the 80th-ranked Fucsovics is 10-10 in 2023 and made the third round in Rome.
The pair will meet for the first time, but Baez is expected to prevail, having made the Turin Challenger semifinals last week.
Pick: Baez in three sets
#2 First Round: Gael Monfils vs Pedro Cachin
Wildcard Gael Monfils takes on the unseeded Pedro Cachin of Argentina in his Lyon Open opener.
The 386th-ranked Monfils, back in action after a long layoff, is winless in three matches on tour this year. Meanwhile, World No. 63 Cachin is 7-14 on the season, making the Oeiras 4 Challenger quarterfinal last week after a first-round exit in Rome.
This is another first-time matchup, but Cachin should take the win, considering Monfils' wretched start to the year.
Pick: Cachin in straight sets
#3 Second round: Tommy Paul (Lyon Open 3rd seed) vs Gregoire Barrere
Third seed Tommy Paul takes on Frenchman Gregoire Barrere for a place in the quarterfinals.
The 17th-ranked Paul is 16-9 on the season but is 0-3 on clay this year. Meanwhile, World No. 55 Barrere is 11-10 in 2023 and is coming off a third-round run in Rome last fortnight.
This is yet another first-time matchup, but Barrere should prolong Paul's claycourt misery and take the win.
Pick: Barrere in straight sets
#4 Second Round: Miomir Kecmanovic vs Jack Draper
Fifth seed Miomir Kecmanovic takes on Jack Draper in his Lyon Open opener on Tuesday.
World No. 36 Kecmanovic is 14-13 on the season, coming off opening-round losses in Madrid and Rome. Meanwhile, the 60th-ranked Draper is 8-5 in 2023, making the second round at Monte-Carlo in his last tour appearance.
Considering Draper's limited claycourt pedigree, the Estoril finalist should return to winning ways in this first-time matchup.
Pick: Kecmanovic in three sets
