World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka will face Marie Bouzkova in the quarterfinals of the Brisbane International on January 3, 2025. The winner of the match will take on either eighth seed Mirra Andreeva or Ons Jabeur.

Sabalenka received a bye to the second round of the WTA 500 event and here, she faced Renata Zarazua. The Belarusian thrashed the Mexican 6-4, 6-0 to set up a third-round clash against 15th seed Yulia Putintseva.
The Kazakh made the first break of the match but the World No. 1 fought back and even had a set point at one stage. Eventually, a tiebreak ensued, and Sabalenka won it to take the lead. She then broke in the very first game of the second set and this was enough to secure a 7-6(2), 6-4 win and a place in the quarterfinals.
Marie Bouzkova started her campaign in Brisbane after edging out local wildcard Talia Gibson 7-6(5), 3-6, 6-3. She then faced seventh seed Jelena Ostapenko and registered a 7-6(0), 6-4 win to book her place in the third round.
Here, the Czech was up against former World No. 1 Victoria Azarenka. Seven out of ten games in the opening set saw serves being broken, and Bouzkova eventually won 6-4, 6-4 to take the lead in the match.
Azarenka got off to a good start in the second set, as she broke serve in the very first game. However, Bouzkova fought back hard and broke the former World No. 1 twice in the last three games to win 6-4, 6-4 and reach the quarterfinals of the Brisbane International.

Sabalenka will enter the match as the favorite to win but Bouzkova saw off two seeded players in her last couple of matches. So, the Czech should not be written off.
Sabalenka has produced some decent numbers on her first serve so far in Brisbane, winning 58 out of 75 points (77.3%). The Belarusian has also served 11 aces and will be eager to produce more of those. She will also look to attack from the start of the match and put Bouzkova under pressure.
Bouzkova has won 112 out of 168 points on her first serve so far during the Brisbane International (66.67%), serving 20 aces. However, the Czech's second serve numbers have been pretty poor, as she has won just 30 out of 80 points on it (37.5%), serving 28 double-faults.
She will have to be careful not to produce too many double-faults, as she cannot gift any points to arguably the best women's player in the world at the moment. Bouzkova will have to be at her very best if she is to stand a chance of defeating the World No. 1.
While Bouzkova cannot be written off, Sabalenka's form over the past few months makes it hard to entertain the possibility of her not winning.
