About Brisbane International
The Brisbane International is a professional tennis tournament that was established in 2009. It is a multi-circuit competition part of the ATP and WTA Tour and is played in Brisbane, Australia. The tournament features in the Australian swing early on in the year; it is an ATP 250 event and WTA 500 event. Every year, the Brisbane International takes place in January.
Owned by Tennis Australia, the Brisbane International is held annually at the Queensland Tennis Centre right before the first Grand Slam of the season - the Australian Open. It is an outdoor hardcourt event that is set to be played between December 29, 2024, to January 5, 2025.
Brisbane International History
The Brisbane International started as the Gold Coast Classic on the women’s side, which then became the Mondial Australian Women’s Hardcourts. On the men’s circuit, the Next Generation Adelaide International was one of three stops in the first week of the year. After major transformations in the WTA as well as ATP, the two merged and created Brisbane International. The first edition took place in 2009 and was promoted to a premier event on the WTA Tour in 2012.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Brisbane International was discontinued but made a return in 2024. On the men’s side, Andy Murray and Grigor Dimitrov are the most successful players historically with two titles each. Meanwhile, Karolina Pliskova has been the most decorated female athlete at the tournament - winning three championships between 2017 and 2020.

Brisbane International Venue
The Brisbane International is played at the Queensland Tennis Centre, known as the Tennyson Tennis Centre during its development. It is a state-of-the-art facility located in Brisbane, Australia. Owned by the Queensland Government, the Queensland Tennis Centre has a capacity of 5,500 in its outdoor hard court facility.
The Queensland Tennis Centre construction began in 2007 and was opened in January 2009. The construction cost stood at A$82 million, or 75 million USD. The venue hosts the ATP and WTA Brisbane International and has also played host to multiple Davis Cup and Fed Cup fixtures.
Brisbane International 2025 Defending Champions
Grigor Dimitrov is the defending champion at the 2025 Brisbane International in men’s singles. In the 2024 edition, the Bulgarian defeated Denmark’s rising star Holger Rune 7-6(5) 6-4 in the final. This was Dimitrov’s second title at the event, having won the competition for the first time in 2017. In women’s singles, Elena Rybakina beat Aryna Sabalenka 6-0 6-3 to win the title.
Coming to doubles, Jean-Julien Rojer and Lloyd Glasspool overcame the mighty pairing of Kevin Krawietz and Tim Putz in three grueling sets to capture the men’s doubles crown. On the other hand, Jelena Ostapenko and Lyudmyla Kichenok defeated Heather Watson and Greet Minnen 7-5 6-2 in the 2024 women’s doubles final.
