Tenth-seed Victoria Azarenka will lock horns with Maya Joint in the second round of the 2025 Brisbane International on Tuesday, December 31.

Azarenka had a promising start to the season, winning nine of her initial 12 matches. The Belarusian made her first semifinal appearance at the Miami Open. Following a decent clay swing, Azarenka suffered a shoulder injury. This kept her out for a major part of the grass swing, as she missed out on Wimbledon.

Azarenka returned to the tour at the Citi Open where she reached the quarterfinals. The former World No. 1 finished her campaign on a bitter note with a second round exit at the Guadalajara Open. She commences the new season at the Brisbane International, where she has received a first round bye.

Joint's 2024 season majorly included WTA 125 and ITF tournaments. Her most notable result came at the ITF Australia 02A where she was crowned the champion. She failed to qualify for the main draws of any Grand Slam except the US Open.

At the New York Major, Joint registered a straight-sets win over Laura Siegemund in the opener before falling to Madison Keys in the second round. The Australian commenced her campaign in Brisbane with a 6-3, 6-4 win against Maddison Inglis in the first round.
