The French Open, or Roland Garros, is one of the four majors on the professional tennis circuit. Originally called the French Championship, the tournament was played for the first time more than a century ago, in 1891. The event's 127th edition in 2023 was won by world No. 1 Novak Djokovic, who defeated Casper Ruud, a runner-up for the second time in a row, 7-6, 6-3, 7-5 in the final.
Rafael Nadal has the record for most consecutive wins with five from 2010 to 2014; he had a streak from 2005 to 2008 as well, but Roger Federer took the trophy in 2009. In the 2015 and 2016 seasons, Stan Wawrinka and Novak Djokovic won the French Open, after which, from 2017 to 2020, Nadal again had a four year win streak. Nadal’s most recent French Open win was in 2022, where he defeated Casper Ruud 6,-3, 6-3, 6-0 in the final.
