2024 Australian Open champion Jannik Sinner reached another final in 2025 by defeating Ben Shelton in the semifinal and Alex de Minaur in the quarterfinals. Sinner lifted his third grand slam title by defeating Alexander Zverev in the final, scoring 6-3, 7-6, 6-3. With the win, he won a prize money of around A$3,500,000. His current and career-high ranking of No. 1 in the world makes him the highest ranked Italian ever.

He became the first Italian man in the Open Era to get the most wins for a season, surpassing the record of Corrado Barazzutti. He capped off a great 2024 season by winning his second major of the year at the US Open, defeating Taylor Fritz in straight sets.

Johann Sinner and Siglinde Sinner are the proud parents of Jannik Sinner. He was born on August 16, 2001 in Innichen, in South Tyrol, Northern Italy. His father is a Chef in a restaurant at a Ski Lodge in Italy, and his mother worked as a waitress at the same restaurant. As a young boy, Jannik was always encouraged by his parents to take part in sporting activities such as football, swimming, skiing and tennis. He showed a genuine interest in skiing, and spent a lot of time practicing in ski halls.

The 23-year-old soon became one of Italy’s top junior skiers in the eight to twelve-years-old age bracket and also won a National Championship award in Giant Slalom at the age of eight. It was his father, Johann Sinner, who pushed him to get back to tennis and develop his skills to compete at a higher level. At the age of 13, Jannik gave up skiing and football to prioritize his tennis. The youngster decided to move to Bordighera on the Italian Riviera to train under Riccardo Piatti and Massimo Sartori at the Piatti Tennis Center.

Jannik Sinner made his debut in the ITF Circuit in 2016, but did not achieve too much success as a junior. However, the Italian achieved significant success on the ATP level as a young professional. He won his first ATP Challenger title in 2019 at the age of 17 despite entering the tournament with no wins at that level. Jannik became the youngest Italian to win a Challenger Series title in history.

The Italian followed it up with a semifinal run at the European Cup and registered his first top 20 win over Frenchman Gael Monfils. He qualified for the 2019 Next Gen ATP Finals as the lowest seed and pleasantly surprised everyone with his brilliant performance at the event. He defeated the likes of Frances Tiafoe, Mikael Ymer and Miomir Kecmanovic en route to the finals and then outlasted Alex De Minaur in straight sets to lift the title. He was named the ATP Newcomer of the Year for having an exceptional season as a young professional.
