Bianca Andreescu vs Greet Minnen preview
Former World No. 4 Bianca Andreescu will take on Greet Minnen in the first round of the Japan Women's Open.
After being sidelined for 10 months due to a back injury, Andreescu returned to the tour at the Frech Open. She outfoxed Sara Sorribbes Tormo and Anna Kalinskaya en route to the third round, but couldn't make her mark against Jasmine Paolini. She followed up with a remarkable runner-up finish at the Libema Open, where Liudmila Samsonova defeated her in three sets in the final.
The Canadian will enter Osaka on the back of a first round exit in at the US Open. Despite losing the first set, Paolini outfoxed her for the second time this year 6-7(5), 6-2, 6-4. Andreescu will be eager to make a deep run in the Japan Women's Open.
Greet Minnen, meanwhile, has had a modest season so far, She had a run to the qaurterfinals at the Libema Open and a third round appearance at the China Open. She reached the second round of the US Open, where she was eliminated by Donna Vekic in straight sets.
The Belgian put up a solid performance in Beijing last month. She defeated Erika Andreeva and Anastasia Potapova en route to the third round, but came up short against Zhang Shuai. The Chinese player overpowered Minnen in one hour and 15 minutes 6-2, 6-3.

Bianca Andreescu vs Greet Minnen prediction
Bianca Andreescu will be making her first appearance on the Asian hardcourt swing next week. The Canadian has played less than 20 matches this year, but looked in good touch whenever she entered the court. She is one of the dark horses for the Japan Women's Open.
Minnen, on the other hand, has put in the hard yards to find her best form on tour. She entered the main draw in Doha, Miami, Madrid, Eastbourne, Toronto and Cleveland via the qualifiers and chalked up promising performances at these events. The Belgian has also gotten a taste of the conditions in Asia with an encouraging run in Beijing last month.
An even contest looks to be on the cards between Andreescu and Minnen in the first round. Considering their skill-set and win percentage on hardcourt, Andreescu will be a slight favorite to come out on top. The Canadian is also fresh off a two month break following the US Open and should be able to begin her campaign with a win.
Pick: Bianca Andreescu to win in straight sets.
