Sonego commenced a strong start to the 2025 season, including reaching the quarterfinals of the Australian Open. At the 2025 Australian Open, he beat Stan Wawrinka, Joao Fonseca, and Learner Tien to reach his maiden quarterfinals. With a career-high ranking of No. 21 achieved on October 4, 2021, he is ranked No. 55 as of January 2025.

By winning the 2024 Winston-Salem Open, Sonego became the 11th player to register a win on all surfaces - clay, grass, and hard. As of 2025, he has won four ATP titles, including the Metz Open (2022) and the Cagliari Open (2021). Sonego reached his maiden ATP Masters quarterfinal at the 2019 Monte Carlo Open, where he created the upset by eliminating Karen Khachanov.
