Max Purcell is an Australian professional tennis player, who specializes in doubles. Born on April 3, 1998, in Sydney, Australia, Purcell has won eight ATP doubles titles in his career, including four titles in the current season. He achieved his highest doubles ranking of No. 8 on September 9, 2024, by the ATP and is ranked No. 12 as of November 2024.

Purcell defeated the team of Gonzalo Escobar and Aleksandr Nedovyesov with Thompson at the 2024 Los Cabos Open final. He recorded a win against John Peers and William Blumberg at the final of the 2024 Houston Open with Thompson in the final. Purcell recently advanced to the semifinals of the 2024 Nitto ATP Finals with Thompson, where they lost to the duo of Kevin Krawietz and Tim Pütz in the final.

Although Purcell has achieved alot of success in doubles lately, he is currently focusing on singles. However, he is yet to win a singles title. He reached his first ATP singles Masters 1000 quarterfinals at the 2023 Cincinnati Open, where he defeated fifth seed Casper Ruud, his first top-10 win. He achieved his highest singles ranking of No. 40 in October 2023.

Max Purcell has won two grand slam doubles title in his career as of 2024 — the 2022 Wimbledon and the 2024 US Open.

Alongside partner Matthew Ebden, the pair defeated the second-seeded pair of Nikola Mektic and Mate Pavic in the final, to win their maiden Grand Slam title. He won his second major title at the 2024 US Open, with Thompson defeating top seed Horacio Zeballos and Marcel Granollers in the quarterfinals.

Purcell has also reached the final of the Australian Open in doubles twice, in 2020 and 2022. In the 2020 Australian Open, Purcell paired with Luke Saville, where they lost against Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury. In 2022, he partnered with Ebden, where they lost against Thanasi Kokkinakis and Nick Kyrgios in the all-Australian final. That was the first men's doubles final at the Australian Open to feature two all-Australian teams since 1980.

In mixed doubles, Purcell has reached the semifinal at the US Open in 2021, with partner Dayana Yastremska. His best performance in grand slam singles came at the French Open in 2023, where he reached the second round.
