Iga Swiatek, Paula Badosa, Danielle Collins and Emma Raducanu, among other big stars, recently turned up the glam during the 2024 Billie Jean King Cup finals reception dinner. The final rung of the international team event will run from 13 to 20 November in Malaga and has some strong teams vying for the title.
The Billie Jean King Cup, popularly known as the BJK Cup, is the premier women's tennis team competition on the women's tour. The qualifying rounds began in April this year with eight teams qualifying for the finals (2023 finalists Canada and Italy, host nation Spain, and wildcard Czech Republic directly made it to the last round).
The 12 teams arrived in Malaga for this week's BJK Cup finals and were treated to a welcome reception gala. Iga Swiatek, who relinquished her World No. 1 position this year, and the rest of the Poland BJK Cup team wore a rather formal outfit, donning a magenta pant suit.
Paula Badosa and her Spanish peers, meanwhile, turned up in a patterned long dress. Emma Raducanu and the Great Britain BJK Cup team combined Spain's and Poland's aesthetics as they paired navy blue blazers with long skirts.
Danielle Collins and the Americans also sported a semi-casual look, turning up at the reception in sky-blue jackets and blue jumpsuits. Other teams that were present at the finals team dinner include defending champions Canada, Germany, Romania, Japan and Slovakia.
Iga Swiatek gunning for first-ever BJK Cup title
Iga Swiatek has always been passionate about representing her country on the world stage. The World No. 2, who accumulated an impressive 56-8 win/loss record this year, won both of her singles fixtures in Poland's BJK Cup qualifying-round win over 2022 titlists Switzerland back in April.
Swiatek, however, will have her work cut out during Poland's first match at the team event as Spain stand in their way. The 23-year-old will have to beat World No. 12 Badosa to ensure smooth sailing for her country. Both players are tied 1-1 in their head-to-head meetings on the WTA Tour but haven't faced off since 2021.
Should Poland win their first match, they will take on the second-seeded Czech Republic for a place in the last four. The Czech wildcards are certainly not short on talent, with the likes of Linda Noskova, Marie Bouzkova and Katerina Siniakova on their roster. They are then projected to face either 2023 runner-ups Italy, 2019 semifinalists Romania, or the relatively inexperienced Japan in the semifinals.
Iga Swiatek can then expect a mouthwatering clash with either last year's BJK Cup hero Leylah Fernandez (Canada) or her archrival Danielle Collins (USA) in the title match, provided Poland make it that far.
