The 49th edition of the Japan Open will run from September 25 to October 1, 2024, at the Ariake Coliseum in Tokyo. Ben Shelton, the defending champion, returns to the venue of his first and biggest career title. He recently participated in the Laver Cup and won one of his two singles ties and two of his three doubles ties.
Shelton isn't the only player representing the US in the Japanese capital. Fellow American Taylor Fritz leads the field as the top seed, and Tommy Paul, Frances Tiafoe, Alex Michelsen, and Brandon Nakashima, among others, are also in the mix.
Kei Nishikori, a two-time champion here, is competing not only in singles but also in doubles, much to the delight of the home crowd. Former Wimbledon finalist Matteo Berrettini, who has already claimed three titles this year, is another player to look out for.
The Italian has 10 career titles, though none have come on hardcourts. He has reached only one final on the surface, which was at the Tennis Napoli Cup two years ago. He will aim to finally cross this off his checklist once and for all in Tokyo.
Holger Rune, Hubert Hurkacz, and Jack Draper are the other notable players competing here. The Brit recently reached his maiden Major semifinal at the US Open, going down to eventual champion Jannik Sinner. He will look to continue what has been a breakthrough season for him.
With a rather competitive field assembled in Tokyo, the match-ups are bound to be exciting. On that note, here's how one can keep up with all the action taking place at this year's Japan Open:
