Novak Djokovic has weighed in on Nick Kyrgios' controversial comments about Jannik Sinner, which have sparked tension in the tennis world. The Aussie has been vocal against the Italian ever since he tested positive for the banned substance Clostebol earlier this year, making his stance clear.

Djokovic is in Brisbane to kick off the 2025 season at the Brisbane International, aiming for a fresh start after a 2024 year that didn't deliver the Grand Slam success he expected. He will face Rinky Hijikata in his first singles match on December 31.

Ahead of that, the Serb spoke to the media and was asked about Kyrgios’ comments regarding Sinner. While he admitted that he didn’t find them "nice," he acknowledged that everyone has the right to express their opinions.

“We live in a world where everyone has the right to express themselves, especially on social media,” he said.

The 24-time Major champion then agreed with Kyrgios on some points, particularly regarding the lack of transparency and the inconsistency of protocols in cases like Sinner's and Iga Swiatek's.

“Nick has spoken a lot about the whole Jannik doping case, and he's right about the transparency and the inconsistency of the protocols and the comparisons between the various cases,” Djokovic said.
“We have seen many players in the past, and also currently, who have been suspended for not even having undergone anti-doping tests and for not having communicated their whereabouts, and some lower-ranked players who have been waiting for their cases to be resolved for more than a year,” he added.

Novak Djokovic and Nick Kyrgios have set their fans buzzing by teaming up for doubles at the 2025 Brisbane International. The duo will kick off their campaign on December 30, taking on Alexander Erler and Andreas Mies.

In Brisbane, Djokovic spoke to the media about his excitement for teaming up with Kyrgios, revealing that they had planned the partnership since the 2024 Wimbledon Championships.

"Yeah, that's going to be fun. We've never teamed up, so let's see. You know, we texted about it. We spoke earlier in Wimbledon about playing together when he's back on tour, so get the first chance right away in the first week of the season, so should be fun," he said.

The Serb added:

"It's great to be back. I haven't played in Brisbane since ATP Cup back in 2020, so it's exciting, and I'm looking forward to compete."
