The Dallas Stars will have their fingers crossed regarding the health of defenseman Chris Tanev. The veteran was forced to exit Game 4 of the Western Conference Finals matchup against the Edmonton Oilers after blocking a shot with his right foot.

It was a devastating loss for the Dallas Stars, who eventually lost Game 4 5-2. The series will continue on Friday night, with the team hoping that Chris Tanev will be healthy enough to return to the lineup.
Stars captain Jamie Benn had nothing but praise for Chris Tanev:
“He’s one of the ultimate warriors in this league."
If Tanev is unable to go, they may need to test their defensive depth for Game 5.
Three potential replacements for Chris Tanev if he misses Game 5
#1 Nils Lundkvist
Nils Lundkvist appears to be the most likely candidate to be given an opportunity for the Stars if Tanev is unable to go. The 23-year-old defenseman has been a healthy scratch for the Stars, but they may need his fresh legs heading into Game 5.
The young defenseman appeared in 59 games for the Dallas Stars this season recording two goals and 17 assists, while also posting a +13 plus/minus. He could be called back into action against the Edmonton Oilers on Friday.
#2 Jani Hakanpaa
Tanev is not the only defenseman the Dallas Stars hope to have healthy by Friday. Jani Hakanpaa has missed most of the playoffs so far, but his presence in the lineup would be most welcome if Tanev cannot return.
The 32-year-old averaged nearly 19 minutes per game for Dallas this season, posting two goals and 10 assists, while also adding 196 hits.
"Hintz is out tonight. He's hopeful for next game or next series, per Pete DeBoer. No other lineup changes. Jani Hakanpaa traveled with the team and is skating but is still out." - @rboulding
#3 Derrick Pouliot
Derrick Pouliot has seen limited NHL action this season, but he has plenty of experience over his nine-year career.
On Apr. 20, Pouliot was recalled by the Dallas Stars but has not appeared in any game for the team. It may be a tall order for Pouliot to step into the lineup against the likes of Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl.
