The San Jose Sharks had the worst record in the NHL last season and are once again expected to be near the bottom of the standings this coming campaign.
In 2023-24, several players struggled, as well as the whole team. But heading into next season, three players are prime bounce-back candidates.
3 San Jose Sharks players who are bounce-back candidates
#1, Barclay Goodrow
Barclay Goodrow began his NHL career with the San Jose Sharks and he is back with the team after San Jose claimed him off waivers from the New York Rangers.
Last season, Goodrow struggled offensively as he recorded just 4 goals and 8 assists for 12 points in 80 games. However, with San Jose this coming season, Goodrow should have a better year and a bigger role than he had with the Rangers.
#2, Mackenzie Blackwood
Mackenzie Blackwood had a disastrous season with the San Jose Sharks as goaltending was a major issue. He was 10-25 in 2023-24.
Blackwood has been inconsistent in his NHL career but still has a lot of upside. San Jose strengthened their defense by adding better defensive forwards, which should result in fewer scoring chances on Blackwood.
If Blackwood can be marginally better, San Jose should have a much better season.
#3, Marc-Edouard Vlasic
Marc-Edouard Vlasic is nearing the end of his career as he is now 37 and has been in the NHL since 2006-07.
However, last season was not a good one for the defenseman as he recorded just 6 goals and 6 assists for 12 points in 57 games. It's expected that Vlasic should be healthier this season, and if he can avoid injuries, he should play much better on both offense and defense.
