The Boston Bruins got back in the win column with a solid 2-0 shutout win over the Ottawa Senators at TD Garden on Thursday night. The Bruins bounced back after a 5-1 thumping at the hands of the New Jersey Devils the night before.
Morgan Geekie and David Pastrnak (EN) scored for the Boston Bruins. Meanwhile, the Bruins spoiled a solid outing from Senators’ goalie Anton Forsberg, who made 24 of 25 saves.
Here’s a closer look at the three most impressive Boston Bruins players from their shutout win over the Ottawa Senators on Thursday night.
3 most impressive Boston Bruins players from 2-0 shutout win over Ottawa Senators
#3. David Pastrnak
David Pastrnak got back on track on Thursday night, factoring in both Boston Bruins’ goals. First, he assisted on Geekie’s 13th of the season in the second period.
Then, Pastrnak was on the ice defending a one-goal lead, eventually getting an empty-netter to seal the win for the B’s.
Pastrnak ended the night with two points (1G, 1A), in nearly 22 minutes of ice time over 23 shifts. He registered four shots on goal while playing solid defense down the stretch.
#2. Morgan Geekie
Morgan Geekie scored for the second consecutive night, opening the scoring two minutes into the second period. The goal would hold up as the game-winner.
Geekie has played well of late, making good use of his size and strength to make things happen. His goal against the Senators was an example.
Here’s a look:
Geekie headed toward the net, getting in between three Senators players. None of them were able to pick him up, allowing Geekie to park in front of the net and take a beautiful feed from Pastrnak. Then, Geekie tapped the puck home for the game’s first goal.
The effort earned Geekie the game’s second star.
#1. Joonas Korpisalo
Joonas Korpisalo backstopped the Bruins to a shutout win, stopping all 29 shots he faced. He was solid after coming in relief of Jeremy Swayman the night before in New Jersey. Then, Korpisalo continued this strong performance against his former team.
After the game, Korpisalo told reporters:
“Today was superb. It was a big game for everybody.”
The brilliant goaltending performance earned Korpisalo his third shutout of the season and seventh of his career. He was named the game’s first star.
The Bruins will look to continue improving when they host the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday. The game should prove to be an entertaining one as the high-powered Avalanche meet a tough defensive team in the Bruins.
