3 most impressive Detroit Red Wings players from shutout win over Tampa Bay Lightning
#1. Dylan Larkin
The Detroit Red Wings captain continues to provide strong play and leadership for the team. On Saturday night, Dylan Larkin registered four shots on goal in 22:41 of ice time. He was a plus-1 while skating in 26 shifts.
While Larkin didn’t register a point, he was able to generate plays and create scoring opportunities. Larkin’s strong play bodes well as the Red Wings look to maintain consistency on their way to salvaging what has been a largely lost season.
#2. Marco Kasper
Marco Kasper had a strong game for the Detroit Red Wings, scoring at the midway mark of the second period. His seventh goal of the season proved to be the game-winner.
Kasper redirected a shot-pass from J.T. Compher, sneaking the puck past Lightning goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy. The puck slid past Vasilevskiy's left pad, just inside the post.
Here’s a look at the play:
An excited Kasper celebrated the goal as the Wings took a 1-0 lead that would prove to be the difference on Saturday night. His efforts earned him the game’s second star.
Kasper made the most of his 15:42 of ice time, playing in 21 shifts and registering two shots on goal. Most importantly, Kasper continues to grow and develop into the player the Red Wings hope he can become.
#3. Cam Talbot
Cam Talbot was the game’s biggest story, stopping all 28 shots he faced. The shutout was a solid performance for Talbot, who has been effective for the Red Wings all season.
Saturday night’s performance was his first clean sheet of the season, earning him the game’s first star.
Talbot is now 12-10-2 on the season, with a 3.02 goals-against average and a .902 save percentage. While the numbers don’t jump off the page, they reflect the Red Wings’ improvement since Todd McLellan took over in late December.
Talbot is now 6-1 in January, helping the Wings get back into the Eastern Conference playoff conversation.
The Red Wings will get Sunday off before hosting the Los Angeles Kings on Monday night at Little Caesars Arena.
