The Edmonton Oilers beat the Seattle Kraken at Climate Pledge Arena on Saturday for their third straight win.
The Oilers broke the deadlock inside 57 seconds, thanks to Vasily Podkolzin's fourth goal of the season. The lead was soon doubled by first-year forward Jeff Skinner, who picked up his seventh goal.
The Oilers made it three goals to the good just past the midway point of the second period, thanks to Ryan Nugent-Hopkins' 10th goal. But the Kraken fought their way back into the contest, thanks to goals from Chandler Stephenson and Jaden Schwartz.
Any hope for a Kraken comeback was snuffed out when star Leon Draisaitl continued his incredible season, scoring into an open net with Seattle goaltender Philip Grubauer on the bench for an extra attacker, for his 29th goal of the season.
Grubauer finished with 28 saves in a losing effort, while Edmonton Oilers goaltender Calvin Pickard wasn't as busy, making 15 saves.
Three most impressive Edmonton Oilers players in 3-2 win over Seattle Kraken
#1 Viktor Arvidsson
Slowly finding his game after missing several games due to injury, Arvidsson picked up a pair of assists on the Kraken and looked much like his old self that had made him one of the more valuable pieces with the Nashville Predators and Los Angeles Kings.
#2 Leon Draisaitl
Not only is Draisaitl proving that he's been worth every penny of his new massive contract the Oilers rewarded him with. But he's also showing that he's clearly in the running for the title of best player in the NHL along with his teammate Connor McDavid.
His goal improved his total on the season to 29, the most in the NHL.
#3 Ryan Nugent-Hopkins
The longest tenured member of the Edmonton Oilers has faced criticism this season for not producing as he once did. He's only two years removed from a 104-point campaign in 2022-23.
However, his confidence is building, and his 10th goal of the year scored against the Kraken will help boost it further. If the Oilers are to go on another extended playoff run, they will need Nugent-Hopkins to be at his best.
