The Edmonton Oilers continue to get the job done, earning their latest victory in the form of a 5-3 triumph over the rival Minnesota Wild at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minnesota. The win improved their record to 28-13-3, while the Wild fell to 27-14-4.

Things didn't begin ideally for the Oilers, who fell behind 2-0 in the opening 20 minutes of play thanks to a pair of power-play goals by the Wild; Matt Boldy started the scoring with his 17th goal, while Marco Rossi also scored his 17th goal.

The Wild appeared well on the way to taking their 2-0 lead into the first intermission, but the Oilers had other ideas in mind. They knotted the score at 2-2 before the period expired thanks to Zach Hyman's 15th goal, followed by captain Connor McDavid's 18th.

Early in the second period, Ryan Hartman restored the lead for the Wild, only to have Edmonton's Ryan Nugent-Hopkins respond to knot the score once again, setting up a tense third period.

Vasily Podkolzin netted a decisive goal early in the third period, tipping in a shot from Viktor Arvidsson past goaltender Filip Gustavsson. McDavid added another goal, his 19th of the season, just past the midway point of the period.

Gustavsson finished with 31 saves in a losing effort, while the Oilers got 31 saves from Calvin Pickard.

3 most impressive Edmonton Oilers players from the 5-3 win over Minnesota Wild

#1. Connor McDavid

The superstar Oilers captain continues to do it all for his club, passing Hall of Famer Jarri Kurri for second all-time in Oilers' points (1,044); he's now only behind Wayne Gretzky's record of 1,669 points.

“Quite a remarkable feat,” Edmonton coach Kris Knoblauch said of McDavid after the game. “For him to go up the scoring list as quickly as he has, and within an organization that has had so many significant players, I’ve seen so many remarkable things from him. He’s a tremendous player and great teammate."

#2. Zach Hyman

Zach Hyman scored a career-high 54 goals last season but started this season nowhere near that kind of pace. After missing time due to injury, Hyman has picked up the pace for Edmonton and is looking far more like the player from last season. He cut Minnesota's lead in half with a timely goal on Wednesday night and now has two goals in his last three games.

#3. Calvin Pickard

Edmonton's backup goaltender may have surrendered a pair of early goals, but he settled down and shut the door when he had to the rest of the way. He stopped six of seven shots on the evening from Matt Boldy, while also turning aside five attempts from Yakov Trenin along with four from Joel Erikkson-Ek.
