The Montreal Canadiens seem to have found a groove thanks to their improved play, and all seems to have coincided with the return of Finnish forward and first-year Habs sniper Patrik Laine to the lineup. Their latest win came in the form of a 3-2 shootout victory over the Anaheim Ducks at Bell Centre on Monday night, improving their record to 11-14-3, while the struggling Ducks fell to 10-12-4.

The Canadiens didn't have to wait long to find the back of the net, as Laine notched his third goal since returning to the ice just 2:26 into the game on the power-play.

Midway through the opening frame, Troy Terry knotted the score at 1-1 with his seventh goal. Not long into the second period, Terry struck again, this time with a Habs player in the penalty box.

Just 11 seconds later, Kirby Dach tied things up again with just his second tally of the season.

Neither team could score in the third period and the five-minute overtime session, so a shootout was required.

Laine picked up the unofficial hat trick, beating goaltender Lukas Dostal for the third time in the game by scoring first in the shootout. Cole Caufield also scored in the shootout for the Habs, who got two key saves from Sam Montembeault on Mason McTavish and Troy Terry in the skills contest to win the game.

3 most impressive Montreal Canadiens players during 3-2 S/O win over Anaheim Ducks feat. Patrik Laine

#1. Patrik Laine

The return of Laine to the Habs' lineup has resulted in an almost overnight turnaround of their fortunes.

The Canadiens have caught fire with Laine on the ice, winning three of the four games he's played in; Laine has scored in all three victories, each time with an opposition player in the penalty box.

#2. Sam Montembeault

The Canadiens goaltender has enjoyed a reversal of fortunes in his last several games. He made 27 saves against the Ducks en route to yet another win, including a major save on Frank Vatrano with three minutes left in regulation that was intended as the game-winner.

#3. Lane Hutson

The rookie defenseman has made some team history, and for a historic Original Six team like the Canadiens, that's no small accomplishment.

With an assist on Laine's goal, Hutson extended his assist and point streaks to seven games, which is the longest for a rookie Habs defenseman; he now has 21 assists in the 30 games he's played.
