The New York Rangers arrived in Sin City on Saturday night, hoping to earn their fourth victory in their last six games and entering with a 3-1-1 record in their last five.

Meanwhile, the host Vegas Golden Knights were aiming to bounce back from a subpar performance against another New York squad earlier in the week, as they were shut out on home ice by the New York Islanders by a 4-0 score.

It was the Rangers who hit the jackpot with a 2-1 win in regulation, improving back to the .500 mark at 20-20-2, while Vegas has now dropped consecutive games in regulation and sits at 28-11-3.

Neither team found the back of the net in the opening 20 minutes, but the Golden Knights put themselves on the scoresheet first. Captain Mark Stone notched his 12th goal of the season, scoring on the power-play to give Vegas the 1-0 lead.

But the Rangers knotted the score with a power-play goal of their own just under four minutes later courtesy of Vincent Trocheck; it was his 14th of the season.

In the third period, the Rangers grabbed the lead after Adam Edstrom's third goal of the season at the 5:57 mark; it would eventually stand up as the game-winner.

The Rangers held on for the 2-1 win despite a late push from the Golden Knights, who pulled goaltender Ilya Samsonov for the extra attacker and also had a power-play opportunity.

Samsonov finished with 24 saves on 26 shots, while Igor Shesterkin made 28 saves.

#1. Igor Shesterkin

Now this is the goaltender that the Rangers saw fit to hand the richest contract in NHL history for a player at his position.

Despite allowing Mark Stone's goal in the second period, Shesterkin was in vintage form on Saturday night, stopping four attempts alone from Thomas Hertl, three shots from Ivan Barbashev and five from Noah Hanifin.

#2. Vincent Trocheck

Trocheck paid the price to score his goal, banging home a rebound of the shot from teammate Mika Zibanejad that initially deflected off of him; he immediately doubled over in pain.

While he initially departed to return to the locker room, Trocheck re-emerged eventually and finished with just over 21 minutes of ice time in the win.

#3. Adam Edstrom

The towering center scored just his third goal of the season, having entered the game with two goals in 41 games. He deflected Jonny Brodzinski's shot through the five hole of Samsonov:

It was his first career game-winning goal.
