The New York Rangers entered Thursday night's game against rivals Philadelphia Flyers having played better of late, winning three of their past four games and helping to stabilize themselves after what was a very difficult several weeks.
Meanwhile, the Flyers entered the game on a hot streak of their own, having gone 4-0-1 in their last five games.
Ultimately, it would be the Rangers getting the job done over the Flyers with a 6-1 victory, improving to 24-20-4 while the Flyers fell to 22-21-6.
The game started well enough for the Flyers, who found the back of the net first thanks to Owen Tippett's 14th goal of the season just 1:25 after the opening face-off.
However, the Rangers would grab a 2-1 lead thanks to goals in quick succession from Braden Schneider and Adam Edstrom just 1:24 apart from one another near the midway point of the period; New York took the lead into the dressing room during the first intermission.
The Ranges then increased their lead to 3-1 after defenseman K'Andre Miller picked up his fourth goal of the season at the 4:44 mark of the middle frame.
At the 5:15 mark of the third period, Filip Chytil scored his 11th goal, increasing New York's lead to 4-1. Adam Fox (empty net goal) and Reilly Smith would cap off the scoring for the Rangers, who got 33 saves from goaltender Igor Shesterkin.
Meanwhile, Samuel Ersson was victimized five times on 36 shots.
