The Carolina Hurricanes lost 3-2 in overtime to the Anaheim Ducks on Sunday. The Hurricanes had won three of their last five games, including a 2-0 shutout of the Vancouver Canucks.
Meanwhile, the Ducks were coming off a 6-0 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday. They returned to the win column with an overtime victory at Lenovo Center, improving to 18-20-5 on the season, while the Hurricanes fell to 26-15-3.
The Ducks started well, taking the lead inside the opening 20 mins through Jansen Harkens' first goal of the season. Anaheim took the lead into the first intermission. Neither team found the back of the net in the middle frame, setting up a tense third period.
The Ducks doubled ther lead through Cutter Gauthier's sixth goal of the season, just 1:18 into the third. But Carolina fought their way back into the contest. Andrei Svechnikov notched up a power-play goal to halve the lead before Seth Jarvis scored his 13th of the season with 56 seconds remaining.
Gauthier emerged the hero in overtime, scoring his second of the game to secure the extra point for the Ducks:
Ducks goaltender Lukas Dostal was impressive, making 35 saves. Meanwhile, Pyotr Kochetkov wasn't as strong for the Hurricanes, getting vitmized three times on just 20 shots.
On that note, here are the three least impressive Hurricanes players from their OT loss to the Ducks:
Three least impressive Carolina Hurricanes players in 3-2 OT loss to Anaheim Ducks
#1 Pyotr Kochetkov
It wasn't an overly busy night for Kochetkov, who only faced 20 shots. However, at least two of the goals he surrendered he would love another opportunity to face again, especially Gauthier's overtime game-winner, where he cheated too far to his right and allowed a rather inocuous tally.
Kochetkov has mostly performed well for the Carolina Hurricanes this season, but Sunday against the Ducks wasn't one of his better outings.
#2 Jaccob Slavin
Sunday's game was Carolina's third game in the last four nights, and it showed for several players.
Slavin, who's one of the Carolina Hurricanes' more reliable defenders, was caught out of position twice on a pair of Ducks goals, finishing with a -2 rating while also committing three giveaways.
#3 Jack Roslovic
One of the Carolina Hurricanes' better forwards with 17 goals on the season, Roslovic was nowhere to be found offensively for the Hurricanes against the Ducks.
He managed zero points, with only a single shot on goal, and also committed three giveaways.
