The Chicago Blackhawks executed a trade as part of a major three-team deal involving the Colorado Avalanche and Carolina Hurricanes earlier on Friday, sending Taylor Hall to Carolina while also retaining part of Mikko Rantanen’s salary.

But there was still a game to be played, as the Blackhawks hosted the Tampa Bay Lightning at United Center in a rematch of the 2015 Stanley Cup Final.

Mitchell Chaffee got the scoring started for the Lightning with a power-play goal midway through the first period, but the Blackhawks seized the lead with a pair of goals late in the frame.

Colton Dach scored his first goal of the season, followed by Frank Nazar's second goal just over two minutes later. Chicago took a 2-1 lead into the first intermission.

They stretched the lead to 3-1 shortly into the second period after Louis Crevier notched his third goal, only for Tampa Bay to respond with a goal from Nick Paul.

Just when it seemed the Blackhawks were destined for a victory, the Lightning made it clear they had other ideas. Jake Guentzel scored the game-tying goal with the man advantage with 41 seconds remaining, setting up overtime.

In the extra session, Lightning sniper Nikita Kucherov did what he does best.

Goaltender Jonas Johansson wasn’t busy for the Lightning but didn’t have his best outing, picking up the win despite allowing three goals on 14 shots. Meanwhile, Arvid Söderblom did all he could for Chicago, making 37 saves.

#1. Teuvo Taravainen

One of the veteran players the Blackhawks signed over the offseason to add much-needed talent to the roster, Teräväinen was a no-show for Chicago against the Lightning.

Not only did he fail to generate anything offensively, but he also took a costly penalty that resulted in a goal against.

#2. Ilya Mikheyev

Another Blackhawks forward who was a no-show for his team was Mikheyev, who not only didn’t produce anything but also committed three giveaways.

If it was hard to notice him out there, fans can be excused — he didn’t do anything worth noticing.

#3. Alec Martinez

Martínez took the costly tripping penalty late in regulation that led to the Lightning tying the score.

Another key offseason acquisition for the Blackhawks, Martínez has largely been a disappointment for Chicago, much like the rest of the roster.
