The Detroit Red Wings dropped their second game in as many nights, falling 4-1 to the Dallas Stars at American Airlines Center on Sunday night. With the loss, the Red Wings fell further behind in the Atlantic Division playoff race.

Matej Blumel, Jason Robertson, Mavrik Bourque and Wyatt Johnston scored for the Dallas Stars. Meanwhile, Simon Edvinsson got the Detroit Red Wings on the board with his fifth of the season.

Here’s a look at the three least impressive Detroit Red Wings players from Sunday night’s loss to the Stars.

3 least impressive Detroit Red Wings players from loss to Dallas Stars

#1. Patrick Kane

Patrick Kane has cooled off in recent games after a hot streak. He recorded two points on Jan. 16 against the Florida Panthers but registered just one assist in Saturday night’s loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning.

On Sunday, Kane was a minus-3 in just under 16 minutes of ice time. He finished with 18 shifts and took two shots on goal. Kane was largely absent for most of the night, failing to generate high-danger scoring chances.

While Kane has had a successful season, he needs to continue contributing to the Red Wings’ offense to keep the team rolling.

#2. Alex DeBrincat

Alex DeBrincat has had an up-and-down season. At times, he’s been crucial to the Detroit Red Wings’ success, but other times, he’s been largely invisible on the ice, failing to generate much offense.

On Sunday night against the Stars, DeBrincat ended the game a minus-2 in over 17 minutes of ice time. He appeared in 19 shifts, registering two shots on goal.

Like Kane, the Red Wings rely on DeBrincat to play a significant role in their top six, providing scoring and reliable defensive play. However, he has tallied just two points in his last five games and is a combined minus-5 during that stretch.

That kind of performance needs to change as the Red Wings continue their fight for a playoff spot.

#3. Justin Holl

Justin Holl continues to be under scrutiny on the Red Wings' blue line. He has been at the center of several questionable defensive plays, leading to costly mistakes.

A prime example came on Mavrik Bourque’s goal. Holl was torched as he failed to contain the Stars’ forecheckers when the puck came back into the Detroit zone. Holl stood in front of the net, unsure of what to do as the Stars moved the puck.

By the time Holl reacted, Bourque had already buried the puck in the back of the net, giving the Stars a 3-0 lead. Holl finished the night a minus-2 in over 16 minutes of ice time. He blocked one shot and took two shots on goal.

The Red Wings will be back in action on Tuesday night as they take on the Philadelphia Flyers at the Wells Fargo Center.
