The Detroit Red Wings were on the receiving end of a 5-1 pounding at the hands of the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday night at Amalie Arena. Jake Guentzel and Nikita Kucherov notched three points apiece to send the Red Wings to their 20th loss of the season, after winning eight of their last nine outings.

In addition to Guentzel and Kucherov’s tallies, Brayden Point, Mitchell Chaffee and Darren Raddysh (PPG) scored for the Lightning. Meanwhile, Lucas Raymond got the Red Wings on the board with his 19th goal of the year.

Here’s a look at the three least impressive Red Wings players from their loss to the Lightning.

3 least impressive Detroit Red Wings players from loss to Tampa Bay Lightning

#1. Moritz Seider

Detroit Red Wings top defenseman Moritz Seider had a rough outing, going minus-2 on the night in over 24 minutes of ice time. While he got five shots on goal, he was unable to generate much offense.

Additionally, Seider looked out of place defensively. A good example came on Chaffee’s goal. Seider got muscled off the puck and, as the pass came back to the slot, got caught puck-watching as Chaffee buried the shot.

While Seider can’t be blamed entirely for the goal, he didn’t hold up his end of the bargain, leaving the rest of his teammates out to dry.

#2. Marco Kasper

Marco Kasper has been one of the rising stars for the Detroit Red Wings this season. He’s notched six points in his last five games, including Saturday night’s tilt against the Lightning.

However, Kasper didn’t fare well against Tampa. He ended the night minus-1, failing to get a shot on goal in just over 12 minutes of ice time.

Kasper also took two penalties, including one during the opening moments of the second period that led to Guentzel’s 23rd goal of the season. The Red Wings hope Kasper’s overall play improves while his offensive side continues to develop.

#3. Cam Talbot

Cam Talbot has been a solid netminder for the Red Wings this season, bringing stability to a team that desperately needed a steady hand in the crease.

However, the Lightning made Talbot pay the price on Saturday night, pounding him with five goals on 16 shots. The five-spot prompted coach Todd McLellan to pull Talbot in favor of Alex Lyon to start the third period.

For Talbot, Saturday’s outing will hopefully be nothing more than a blip on the radar as the Wings try to get back into the Eastern Conference playoff race.

The Detroit Red Wings will be back on the ice Sunday night as they visit the Dallas Stars at the American Airlines Center.
