The Detroit Red Wings lost a tough 6-3 game to the lowly San Jose Sharks on Tuesday night at Little Caesars Arena. The Red Wings entered the night riding a seven-game winning streak. However, that streak fell by the wayside as the Sharks took home the two points.
Vladimir Tarasenko scored twice for the Red Wings, with Lucas Raymond adding the other. Jan Rutta, Nico Sturm, William Eklund, Mikael Granlund, Tyler Toffoli and Mario Ferraro (EN) scored for the Sharks.
Here’s a closer look at the three least impressive Detroit Red Wings players from their loss to the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday night.
3 least impressive Detroit Red Wings players from 6-3 loss to San Jose Sharks
#3. Patrik Kane
Patrick Kane has been money in the bank for Detroit all season long, However, Kane had an unusually quiet night for the Red Wings against the Sharks. He managed one shot on goal in over 21 minutes of ice time.
Kane ended the night a minus-2 in 21 shifts, looking somewhat out of place at times. While his speed and skills remain largely intact, he just couldn’t muster what the Red Wings needed on Tuesday night.
#2. Alex DeBrincat
Like Kane, Alex DeBrincat had a quiet night. While he managed five shots in over 21 minutes of ice time, DeBrincat could not get much going. He ended the night a minus-2, further adding to his lack of effectiveness on the ice.
DeBrincat registered points in every game during the Detroit Red Wings seven-game winning streak, including a three-point performance in the game against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Jan. 2.
In fact, the last time DeBrincat failed to get on the scoresheet was the December 27, 2024 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Wings must get DeBrincat going if they are to continue climbing the Atlantic Division standings.
#1. Ville Husso
The Red Wings’ goaltending has been an issue all season long. While Cam Talbot has played much better than his numbers suggest, there have been shaky outings from time to time.
On Tuesday night, it was Ville Husso’s turn to put forth a shaky performance. He gave up five goals on 23 shots, surrendering a power play and shorthanded goal in the process.
The Wings have been counting on Husso to provide solid work as Talbot’s backup. Unfortunately, Husso could not live up to expectations, despite the fact that the Red Wings played a fairly solid game on defense.
Detroit will have a chance to start another winning streak as it takes on the Florida Panthers next at Amerant Bank Arena on Thursday.
