3 least impressive New Jersey Devils players from 4-2 loss to Philadelphia Flyers
#3. Stefan Noesen
The New Jersey Devils hard-nosed winger had a bit of a rough outing against the Flyers. Noesen hit the ice for 24 shifts totaling 16:45 of ice time. However, he ended the night a minus-1, registering a single shot on goal.
Noesen has had a solid season for the Devils thus far, scoring 30 points in 50 games. He was coming off back-to-back games in which he registered at least one point. However, the Flyers shut him down, keeping him off the scoresheet.
#2. Brett Pesce
Brett Pesce has been one of the most reliable blue-liners for the New Jersey Devils this season. However, he ended the night a minus-2 on Monday night. He played just under 16 minutes on the night, getting a shot on goal while blocking one.
Pesce has gradually slid down the Devils’ depth chart despite being a solid defenseman. He’s now playing third-pairing minutes despite being a top-four defenseman for the bulk of his career. The Devils hope that Pesce can turn things around and become a much more influential presence on the ice.
#1. Dawson Mercer
Dawson Mercer was expected to play a significant role heading into this season. However, he hasn’t quite taken the next step. His 23 points in 54 games have been relatively underwhelming, relegating him to a middle-six role.
On Monday night against the Flyers, Mercer was a minus-2 in nearly 20 minutes of ice time. He skated in 24 shifts, registering four shots, but was unable to find the back of the net. He also registered a 37.5% faceoff rating, putting him well below the 50% mark.
The Devils will have a chance to get their revenge on the Flyers as the two division rivals square off on Wednesday night at Prudential Center.
