The New York Rangers were playing better after an abysmal several weeks, coming into Tuesday night's game against the Colorado Avalanche at Ball Arena in Denver with a 3-0-1 record in their last four. Meanwhile, the host Avalanche had gone 2-2 in their last four respective games.

The Avalanche came out on top over the Rangers in overtime, winning by a 3-2 final score thanks to the second OT goal by defenseman Devon Toews this month.

The Avalanche reached the scoresheet first as Parker Kelly scored at the 4:53 mark of the first period. However, Sam Carrick would strike while shorthanded for the Rangers, knotting the score at 1-1.

Just before the midway point of the second period, the Rangers took the lead after Adam Edstrom's fourth goal.

While the Rangers did their best to try and hold off the Avalanche, Artturi Lehkonen would tie the score at 2-2 with goaltender MacKenzie Blackwood on the bench for a sixth attacker, banging home a loose puck at the side of the net.

In overtime, it was Toews who lasered a shot past goaltender Igor Shesterkin, who immediately looked skyward in disbelief.

Shesterkin finished with 23 saves on the 26 shots he faced, while Blackwood picked up the win by making 27 saves.

3 least impressive New York Rangers players from 3-2 OT loss to Colorado Avalanche

#1. Chris Kreider

The longest-tenured Rangers player on the roster, Kreider's missed opportunity early in the first period directly set up Kelly's goal to give the Avalanche the 1-0 lead.

He finished with no points, zero shots on goal, and a -1 rating. He was the only Rangers forward who finished with zero shots on Blackwood during the contest.

#2. Mika Zibanejad

Another Rangers veteran who has largely struggled this season, Zibanejad didn't do himself any favors by being caught out of position on two Avalanche goals, finishing with a -2 rating and no points.

He also managed just a single shot and was denied a golden chance to win the game for his club in overtime.

#3. Ryan Lindgren

While it wasn't Lindgren's poorest outing of the season, both he and his defensive partner Adam Fox failed to clear the puck late in regulation, setting the Avalanche to tie the score.

It's a sequence that both Lindgren and Fox would love another opportunity on, something they'll have to channel for their next game.
