The Pittsburgh Penguins dropped their second game in as many nights, losing 5-2 against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Sunday night at the PPG Paints Arena. Nikita Kucherov registered three points (2G, 1A), with Brandon Hagel, Anthony Cirelli, and Nick Paul getting the other tallies for the Bolts.

Meanwhile, the Pittsburgh Penguins got goals from Rickard Rakell and Kevin Hayes.

So, here’s a look at the three least impressive Pittsburgh Penguins players from their 5-2 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning on Sunday.

#3 Sidney Crosby

The Pittsburgh Penguins captain registered one assist on the night. However, he was unable to generate much else on the offensive side of the equation. In 25:43 of ice time, he notched six shots on goal, while winning nearly 54% of the draws he took.

However, Crosby had a tough night defensively as he finished a minus-2 in 26 shifts during the game. The Penguins have been counting on Crosby to rise to the occasion and carry his team. However, the lack of depth scoring and overall defensive support has led the Penguins to register a 3-4-3 mark in their last 10 games.

#2 Erik Karlsson

Erik Karlsson had an overall bad night. He failed to get on the scoresheet in nearly 20 minutes of ice in 23 shifts on the night. Also, he managed just one shot on goal. Karlsson’s lack of offensive impact has been a significant drawback for the Penguins as they have lacked a true number-one blue-liner who can move the puck.

A dishonorable mention goes to Kris Letang, who played in nearly 25 minutes on the night, registering a minus-1, while failing to get a shot on goal.

#1 Tristan Jarry

Tristan Jarry had an overall underwhelming performance. He stopped 14 of 17 shots, giving up three even-strength goals.

While two goals were empty-netters at the end of the third period, Jarry did not face a barrage of shots that would require him to steal the game for the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Jarry’s performance on Sunday was the second subpar game for Penguins’ goaltenders in as many nights. On Saturday, Alex Nedeljkovic struggled against the Ottawa Senators, giving up five goals in the shutout loss.

Moving forward, the Penguins will need to get more consistent performances from their netminder if the club is to turn things around this season.

The Penguins will get the night off on Monday before taking on the Seattle Kraken on Tuesday night.
