After a scorching hot start to the 2024-25 NHL season, the Winnipeg Jets have suddenly hit a couple of roadblocks.

With Tuesday night's 4-1 setback at the hands of the St. Louis Blues, they've now lost four straight games. While their record of 18-8 is still the envy of many NHL teams, they've now fallen into second place in the Central Division standings behind the Minnesota Wild.

Neither team managed to find the scoresheet in the game's opening period. Both teams seemed destined to enter their respective dressing rooms still scoreless after 40 minutes of play, however, for the Jets, the Blues made sure that didn't happen.

Jordan Kyrou netted his eighth goal of the season with 1:56 remaining in the period to break the ice. Dylan Hollaway scored immediately afterward, just 39 seconds later to increase the St. Louis lead to 2-0.

Kyrou boosted the Blues' lead to three goals with his second of the game shortly before the midway point of the third period.

While the Jets would make things interesting thanks to Mark Scheifele's 13th goal with time winding down, the Blues sealed the win thanks to an empty-net goal by Robert Thomas with goaltender Connor Hellebuyck on the bench for the extra attacker.

Hellebuyck finished with 28 saves, while Joel Hofer made 22 saves.

#3. Goaltender Connor Hellebuyck

Despite having captured the Vezina Trophy as the NHL's best goalie for last season and his hot start to this season, Hellebuyck has fallen into tough times of late with the rest of his team.

He didn't come up with the saves that he needed to against the Blues, and at least one of the goals he'd love a second chance on.

#2. Defenseman Neal Pionk

Pionk was one of several Jets players to finish with a minus rating on the night in what was a rare subpar performance for him.

#1. Defenseman Josh Morrissey

On the ice for both of Kyrou's goals, Morrisey finished the night with a -2 rating hardly reminiscent of being one of Winnipeg's top defensemen.

The performance of the team as a whole was enough to earn a public callout from coach Scott Arniel.

“We need to be better as a group. That’s the biggest thing,” Arniel said via the Toronto Star. “We won all those games as a team and this isn’t going to change here. Everybody’s had a little bit of fault [with] these losses and now it’s a case of us sticking together and going on to the next game on the road here and finding a way to win that hockey game.”

The Jets have a chance to get back into the win column when they take on the Buffalo Sabres on Thursday.
