Head coach Jim Montgomery recently called out the Boston Bruins for their lack of focus and attention to detail, and they responded in the best way possible — with a win.

The Bruins improved to 3-2 on the season thanks to their 5-3 victory over the Colorado Avalanche at Ball Arena in Denver. Meanwhile, the Avalanche have yet to win through their first four games.

The Bruins struck first, taking advantage of the struggling Alexander Georgiev thanks to Cole Koepke's second goal of the season:

While the Avalanche soon knotted the score thanks to Ross Colton's power play tally, the Bruins re-took the lead thanks to a power play goal from Charlie Coyle:

Sniper David Pastrnak netted his fourth of the season (PPG) midway through the game's middle frame, which was also his fourth goal in the last five games:

13 seconds later, Boston increased its lead to three goals thanks to Hampus Lindholm:

While goals from Cale Makar and Mikko Rantanen would cut Boston's lead to one goal, John Beecher would hit the empty net with Georgiev pulled for the extra attacker with time ticking away in regulation:

Joonas Korpisalo made 22 saves on the 25 shots he faced, while Georgiev finished with 20 saves on 24 shots.

Here's a closer look at three big takeaways from Boston's win over the Avalanche.

3 biggest takeaways from Boston Bruins' 5-3 win over Colorado Avalanche

#3. Joonas Korpisalo picks up his first win in a Bruins uniform

Acquired by the Bruins in the major offseason trade that sent Linus Ullmark to the Ottawa Senators, Korpisalo's first game with Boston didn't go well as he was victimized for six goals last week against the Florida Panthers.

However, he made several key saves against the Avalanche and repelled their attempts at knotting the score late in the third period. His first win as a Bruin came at the right time, and he'll likely get a confidence boost from it.

#2. Captain Brad Marchand avoids injury

Marchand took a heavy hit from Avalanche forward Mikko Rantanen during the second period and wasn't on the bench to begin the third.

However, he did eventually come back to the bench and would take the ice later in the game's final frame; finishing with an assist while playing 16:20 of ice time.

#1. Boston's power play was efficient

Both teams took advantage of the power play opportunities they had during the contest, but it was the Bruins who truly made the most of them.

They scored twice with the man advantage thanks to Coyle and Pastrnak, two players the team is counting on to help shoulder the offensive load.

The Bruins are next in action on Saturday in what will be their first trip to Delta Center in Salt Lake City to take on the Utah Hockey Club.
