3 major takeaways from Utah Hockey Club's OT win over New York Islanders
#3. Connor Ingram was fantastic
Connor Ingram was fantastic despite giving up four goals on 25 shots. He kept the Utah Hockey Club in the game, especially early in the contest.
One specific save that stands out came in the first. After the puck rattled around the boards, Ingram misplayed the puck behind the net, landing on the doorstep. Then, Ingram dove to rob Kyle Palmieri. Ingram got a glove on the puck just as Palmieri was ready to rifle the puck home in front of the yawning cage.
Overall, Ingram made the saves he needed to. The outstanding performance bodes well as Ingram looks to be building more confidence with each passing game.
#2. The Hockey Club didn’t quit
The Hockey Club was seemingly out of it after the Isles came back in the third. The goals from Horvat and Pageau flipped the game around, giving the Isles a 3-2 lead.
Then, less than a minute later, Guenther scored his first of the night on the power play. After that, Tsyplakov’s beauty out the Isles up 4-3. But then, roughly 13 seconds later, Josh Doan scored a brilliant goal to send the game to OT.
The effort was outstanding on the Utah Hockey Club’s part. The team didn’t quit while showing great resilience. The effort is a highly encouraging sign for an overall young team.
#1. Dylan Guenther is on fire
Guenther now has four goals in two games to open the season. It seems that Guenther has gained more confidence and skill with each game.
Most importantly, Guenther’s performance shows the Hockey Club’s second line has been clicking. Thus far, Logan Cooley has four assists already. Moving forward, Guenther figures to be a major part of the Hockey Club’s success.
Utah Hockey Club will face the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden next on Saturday.
