The Winnipeg Jets impressed fans and pundits alike, improving to a perfect 7-0 record in the 2024-25 NHL season. Their latest triumph came in overtime in the Pacific Northwest.

They withstood a comeback effort by the Seattle Kraken and won in overtime by a 4-3 final score at Climate Pledge Arena thanks to Nikolaj Ehler's winning goal.

The host Kraken found the scoresheet first thanks to Matty Beniers' first tally of the season. But the Jets tied the score early in the second period after Nino Niederreiter's third goal of the season as he deflected the rebound of Mason Appleton's shot into the open net.

They then seized the lead with Gabriel Vilardi's first goal of the season, taking a pass down low and outwaiting Kraken goaltender Joey Daccord before tucking the puck past his outstretched left pad.

Niederreitter scored his second of the game less than five minutes into the third period, giving the Jets a two-goal lead. However, the Kraken roared back thanks to goals from captain Jordan Eberle followed by Beneiers' second of the night.

The Jets claimed the extra point up for grabs thanks to Nikolaj Ehlers, whose shot from the top of the slot squeaked through Daccord on a delayed penalty call shortly into overtime.

The Jets remain undefeated, while the Kraken dropped to 4-3-1 after seven games. Connor Hellebuyck finished with 29 saves for the Jets, while Daccord made 32 saves.

What were the three biggest takeaways from Thursday night's overtime win by the Jets over the Kraken?

#3. Connor Hellebuyck continued his strong start to the season

The Jets goaltender, who agreed to a contract extension last season, continues to be worth every dollar the Jets are spending on him this season. He turned aside multiple quality Kraken scoring chances, especially when Seattle outshot Winnipeg by a 12-7 margin in the opening frame.

#2. Secondary scoring continues to come through.

Niederreiter and Vilardi aren't known as Winnipeg's most potent offensive threats; they represent a valuable portion of the depth that their roster boasts and have played a key role in their undefeated start to the season.

#1. The Jets took advantage of an overturned Kraken goal

The Kraken appeared to take a 2-1 lead in the second period, but a video review determined that Hellebuyck was interfered with; the would-be tally was waived off. Shortly afterward, the Jets took the 2-1 lead thanks to Vilardi's goal.

The Jets will look to remain undefeated when they take on the Calgary Flames from the Scotiabank Saddledome on Saturday night.
