The Dallas Stars sit with an incredible opportunity. The Stars are nearly .500, but more than half of their losses are in overtime, meaning they sit in first place in the Western Conference and have the best odds to end the season as a No. 1 seed.

The Stars can prove all the doubters wrong, but first, they need to make a few key additions to their lineup before the NHL Trade Deadline.

Here are three players the Dallas Stars should consider trading for to improve their roster.

1- Timo Meier

Let's see the Stars put the money where their mouth is and go out and acquire the top talent on the market. The Dallas Stars should consider trading for Timo Meier because he is a young and talented winger with great potential. Meier has shown flashes of brilliance during his time with the San Jose Sharks, scoring 30 goals in the 2018-2019 season and over 30 in two seasons since.

The Dallas Stars could benefit from his scoring ability and use additional depth on the wing. Additionally, Meier is only signed to a contract through the 2023 season, meaning that the Stars may not have to break the bank unless they want to extend him. While acquiring Meier would likely take a significant package of assets, he could be a game-changing addition to the Stars' lineup and help them compete at a higher level.

2- Luke Schenn

Luke Schenn is a physical defenseman who can bring toughness and experience to the Dallas Stars blue line. Schenn has been in the league for over a decade and has played for several teams, including the Anaheim Ducks, the Tampa Bay Lightning, and the Vancouver Canucks. He is a reliable stay-at-home defenseman who can play a physical game and is not afraid to throw his weight around.

The Dallas Stars could use some additional toughness and physicality on their blue line, and Schenn could provide that. Additionally, he is a low-risk option as a depth defenseman. Overall, Schenn could be a valuable addition to the Stars' roster as they look to compete in the Western Conference playoffs.

3- Trevor Van Riemsdyk

The Dallas Stars should consider trading for Trevor Van Riemsdyk because he is a reliable and experienced defenseman who can add depth to their blue line. He is a solid defensive defenseman who can play a physical game and contribute offensively. The Stars could use some additional depth on their blue line, especially given the injury history of some of their key defensemen.

Van Riemsdyk could be a valuable addition as a reliable depth defenseman who can play in all situations. Additionally, he is only a rental, signed to the Washington Capitals through the end of the season, making him a relatively low-risk option for the Stars. Overall, Van Riemsdyk could be a valuable addition to the Stars' roster as they look to make a push for the top seed in the West.
