The Detroit Red Wings are heating up, but are they a Stanley Cup threat? Probably not. With the NHL Trade Deadline looming, the Red Wings will be looking to do away with some of their older players like Tyler Bertuzzi, Pius Suter and Oskar Sundqvist.

The Red Wings are still in the process of creating a young core to build around for a future playoff run. The NHL Trade Deadline is the perfect time to do it, as Detroit may be able to pry some youthful talent away.

Here are three young players that the Detroit Red Wings should target when dealing at the NHL Trade deadline:

1- Keegan Kolesar

Keegan Kolesar of Vegas Golden Knights could be a good fit for the Detroit Red Wings. The Red Wings are a team in transition, and Kolesar could provide them with some much-needed grit. He is a physical player who isn't afraid to throw his weight around and stick up for his teammates.

Additionally, Kolesar could contribute to the Red Wings' scoring depth. He is still on his entry-level contract, making him a cost-effective option for the Red Wings. A trade for the 25-year-old would give the Red Wings a young player who can help them both now and in the future.

2- Spencer Knight

The Detroit Red Wings are a team in need of a long-term, youthful goaltender, and Spencer Knight of Florida Panthers could be a good fit. Knight is a highly-touted prospect who has excelled at every level of hockey he's played at. He has the potential to be a franchise goaltender and could provide the Red Wings with stability for years to come.

Knight is also on his entry-level contract, making him a cost-effective option for the Red Wings. Additionally, the Panthers have a logjam for the goaltending position, so they may be willing to part with Knight in a trade. A trade for Knight would give the Detroit Red Wings a young player to build around and could be a key piece in their rebuilding process.

3- Alex Newhook

Detroit Red Wings are a team in need of scoring depth, and Alex Newhook of Colorado Avalanche could be a good fit. Newhook is a highly-touted prospect who has shown the ability to score and create opportunities for his teammates. He is a versatile forward who can play both center and wing, giving the Red Wings flexibility in their lineup.

Newhook is also going to be an option that won't hurt the coffers. Additionally, the Avalanche have a surplus of forwards, so they may be willing to part with Newhook in a trade. A trade for Newhook would give the Red Wings a young player with a high ceiling in the NHL.
