The NHL announced its Hall of Fame Class for 2024 on Tuesday. The seven inductees were Krissy Wendell-Pohl, Colin Campbell, David Poile, long-time star Jeremy Roenick, standout defenseman Shea Weber, Natalie Darwitz and former Detroit Red Wings great Pavel Datsyuk.

While the Hall of Fame selection is a welcome celebration, some big names were overlooked. Let’s take a look at the four biggest snubs from the 2024 NHL Hall of Fame selection.

4 biggest snubs from the 2024 Hall of Fame class

#4: Henrik Zetterberg

Long-time Detroit great Henrik Zetterberg won the Conn Smythe Trophy in 2008. He led a Red Wings team that included Datsyuk, among other greats such as Nicklas Lidstrom. Zetterberg finished his career just shy of 1,000 points (960), ranking him behind other Hall of Famers such as Steve Yzerman and Gordie Howe.

Zetterberg has been eligible since 2022 and should get more consideration in upcoming Hall selections.

#3: Rod Brind’Amour

Carolina Hurricanes coach Rod Brind'Amour won the Stanley Cup as a player with the Canes in 2006. He was renowned as one of the league’s best defensive forwards, capturing the Selke Trophy twice. Brind’Amour finished his career with 1,184 in 1,484 games. He’s been eligible since 2013 but has surprisingly gotten little support from the selection committee.

#2: Alexander Mogilny

Mogilny was one of the first players to defect from the Soviet Union to the NHL. Before coming to North America, he won an Olympic gold medal and played in the World Championships and Junior World Championships.

As for his NHL career, Mogilny played in 990 games, topping 1,000 points (1,032). He won a Stanley Cup with the New Jersey Devils in 2000. Mogilny has been eligible since 2009 but has been consistently overlooked despite having a groundbreaking career.

#1: Patrick Marleau

2024 was Marleau’s first year of eligibility. It was highly surprising to see his name not get called after playing in an NHL-record 1,779 games. He ended his career 24th on the all-time goals list with 566. He’s also the San Jose Sharks’ all-time leading scorer with 1,111 points (1,197 total). Marleau was also on the 2020 and 2014 Canadian Olympic gold-medal teams.

However, Marleau never won a Stanley Cup or an individual award. The closest he got to a championship was reaching the Cup Final with the Sharks in 2016. Nevertheless, it seems like a matter of time before Marleau’s name gets called.
