5 NHL rookies who've impressed the most so far this season
#1: Lane Hutson
Lane Hutson has made his presence felt through the first four games of the season, logging two assists in the Habs' Oct. 10 game against the Boston Bruins, and two assists in the team's Oct. 12 game against the Ottawa Senators.
Despite injuries to Patrik Laine and David Reinbacher, the Canadiens are 2-2 so far this season, with Hutson proving to be a difference-maker for the team. Currently, Hutson ranks third among NHL rookies to win the Calder.
#2: Logan Stankoven
The Dallas Stars are currently undefeated, and Logan Stankoven deserves plenty of credit for his role in the team's success. Through the first four games of the season, Stankoven has racked up five assists, with three coming in the Stars' season opener against the Predators.
Currently, Stankoven is tied second for assists this season along with players like Artemi Panarin and Brady Tkachuk. Right now, he ranks second among NHL rookies to win the Calder.
#3: Matvei Michkov
Matvei Michkov impressed through the Philadelphia Flyers' preseason schedule, racking up points as he showed that he's an NHL-ready talent. Although he was held to zero points in his NHL debut against the Vancouver Canucks, he began to find his rhythm in Philly's Oct. 12 game against the Calgary Flames with an assist.
On Tuesday, he found the back of the net twice against the Edmonton Oilers, bringing his points total to three through the team's first three games. Currently, he ranks first among NHL rookies to win the Calder.
#4: Macklin Celebrini
In his NHL debut, Macklin Celebrini racked up an assist, as well as one of the most unique debut goals in recent memory. While he has since been forced to the sidelines due to a lower-body injury, through his 17-minutes on-ice during his debut, he showed that he has what it takes to be a difference-maker on day one.
The big question for San Jose is how soon they'll be able to get him back on the ice as they look to pick up their first win of the season.
#5: Maxim Tsyplakov
Rookie Maxim Tsyplakov joined the New York Islanders this season after going undrafted in the NHL draft. A KHL product who racked up 47 points over 65 games last season with Spartak Moskva, he has quickly made his presence felt in the NHL.
In his debut game, he found the back of the net to give the Islanders a 4-3 lead late in the third, however, ultimately, the team wound up losing in OT. Most recently, he tallied an assist in the Islanders' Oct. 14 win over the Colorado Avalanche.
