The NHL has a history of legendary duos. Duos like Wayne Gretzky and Jari Kurri dominated in the 1980s, racking up multiple 100-point seasons.
In recent memory, some notable duos have produced astounding point totals. So, here’s a look at five teammate combos that have racked up the most points since the 2015-16 season.
Five NHL teammates with most points since 2015-16
#5 Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin
It feels like Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin should be higher on the list. However, bear in mind that these point totals mostly come after the duo’s legendary Stanley Cup runs of 2016-17.
Overall, Crosby and Malkin have registered 1,392 NHL points while playing for the Pittsburgh Penguins. With both showing little signs of slowing down, they should add to their already impressive point totals.
#4 Nikita Kucherov and Brayden Point
Kucherov and Point have racked up 1,421 points while on a Tampa Bay Lightning team that won back-to-back Stanley Cups in 2020 and 2021.
The duo was also responsible for leading Tampa to three consecutive Stanley Cup Final appearances. With both Point and Kucherov in their primes, their point totals should only increase.
#3 David Pastrnak and Brad Marchand
Pastrnak and Marchand, along with the retired Patrice Bergeron, made up the core of a highly successful Boston Bruins team that has made multiple NHL playoff appearances over the last two decades.
While the duo hasn't won a Stanley Cup together (Marchand was on the 2011 team), the duo has been prolific in their quest for a championship. “Pasta” and Marchand have produced 1,452 points, ranking them third since 2015-16.
#2 Nathan MacKinnon and Mikko Rantanen
MacKinnon and Rantanen were a part of the core that led the Colorado Avalanche to the 2022 Stanley Cup. Along the way, both stars have had multiple 100-point seasons.
Last year, MacKinnon put up video game-like numbers en route the NHL's Hart Trophy. Meanwhile, Rantanen topped 100 points on the season. The duo has accrued 1,505 points since 2015-16.
With both players very much in their primes, those staggering point totals should only increase.
#1 Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl
The top duo is hardly surprising. McDavid and Draisaitl have been a force to be reckoned with. The Edmonton Oilers dynamic duo has racked up nearly 2,000 points, registering 1,905.
The astounding point totals hinge largely on McDavid’s mind-boggling numbers, with Draisaitl consistently topping 100 points in a season.
Like MacKinnon and Rantanen, McDavid and Draisaitl are still in their primes. So, there's no reason to believe that they can’t continue adding to their impressive career numbers.
