5 remarkable NHL records held by Connor McDavid

Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid is arguably the best player in the NHL and although he isn't even 30, he already holds plenty of remarkable NHL records.

During the Oilers' run to the Stanley Cup Final, McDavid has added his name to the record book even more. Let's take a look at five records that McDavid holds.

5 insane NHL records held by Connor McDavid

#5. Youngest captain in NHL history

Connor McDavid was hailed as a generational talent even before he was in the OHL as a 15-year-old. McDavid has only exceeded all expectations, so it wasn't a surprise when he was the first overall pick in the 2015 NHL draft.

However, a record that McDavid broke and still holds is being named the youngest captain in NHL history. McDavid has been a captain everywhere he has been and when the Oilers named him captain, he was just 19 years and 266 days.

#4. Only player to record back-to-back 4-point games in the Stanley Cup Final

Edmonton went down 3-0 to the Florida Panthers and in back-to-back must-win games, McDavid stepped up. McDavid helped the Oilers to an 8-1 blowout win in Game 4 and a 5-3 win in Game 5.

In both games, McDavid has four points and he became the only player in NHL history to record back-to-back four-point games in the Stanley Cup Final.

#3. Most points over a two-game stretch in the Stanley Cup Final

In Games 4 and 5 of the 2024 Stanley Cup Final, Connor McDavid has recorded three goals and five assists for eight points.

Eight points in two games is the most points over a two-game stretch in the Stanley Cup Final history. Considering the Stanley Cup has been played since 1914, it is insane that McDavid also holds that record.

#2. Most points on consecutive goals to begin an NHL season

To begin the 2018-19 NHL season, Connor McDavid set the NHL record for the most points on consecutive goals.

McDavid either scored or assisted on the Oilers' first nine goals of the season, which is the NHL record.

#1. Most assists in a single playoff run

In the 2024 Stanley Cup playoffs, Conor McDavid set the record for most assists in a single playoff run, surpassing Wayne Gretzky's record.

McDavid set the record with 34 assists and the Oilers star is also four points back of Wayne Gretzky's 47 points for most points in a single playoff run.
