Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin is the newest member of one of the most exclusive clubs in NHL history; The 700/700 club.
Ovechkin notched two assists in Tuesday night’s matchup against the Vegas Golden Knights to reach 700 assists. With the mark, Ovechkin now has 853 career goals and 700 assists to join the elite group of NHL legends.

#6 Alex Ovechkin
Alex Ovechkin is the only active member in the group. While one other member is technically active, he does not play in the NHL.
Ovechkin has played for two decades, registering over 1,500 points. He won a Stanley Cup with the Caps in 2018 and has several accolades including the 2008 Art Ross Trophy, the 2006 Calder Trophy, the 2018 Conn Smythe, three Hart Trophies, nine Rocket Richard Trophies, and three Ted Lindsay Awards.
The first-overall pick from 2004 figures to be a slam-dunk first-ballot Hall of Famer.
#5. Phil Esposito
Esposito is a legend of the Boston Bruins. He predominantly played in the 1970s, leading the Boston Bruins to two Stanley Cups in 1970 and 1972. Esposito won the Art Ross Trophy five times and the Hart twice.
He also played for the Chicago Blackhawks and New York Rangers as part of the over 1,200 NHL games, registering 717 goals and 873 assists.
#4. Marcel Dionne
Dionne was the face of the Los Angeles Kings when the club first entered the NHL. Dionne played in over 1,300 games, notching 731 goals and 1,040 assists. Dionne shared the 1980 Art Ross Trophy with a youngster named Wayne Gretzky.
Dionne also won the Lady Byng and the Ted Lindsay awards twice. Dionne never won a Stanley Cup.
#3. Jaromir Jagr
Jaromir Jagr is technically still active. However, he is currently playing in his native Czechia at the age of 53. Jagr has hinted this season will be his last.
As for Jagr’s lengthy NHL career, he played in over 1,700 games, registering 766 goals and 1,115 assists. Jagr is second on the all-time NHL scoring list with 1,921 points.
Jagr won two Cups with the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Art Ross five times, the Hart once, and the Ted Lindsay three times. Jagr is expected to be fast-tracked to the NHL Hall of Fame when he officially retires.
#2. Gordie Howe
Mr. Hockey was the all-time leader scorer until Gretzky broke his record in 1989. Howe’s career spanned from 1946 to 1980.
Howe played in over 1,700 games, scored 801 goals and 1,049 assists. Those numbers don’t account for the numbers he accrued during the 1970s in the WHA.
Howe won four Cups, the Art Ross and Hart Trophies six times, the Lester Patrick, and the NHL Lifetime Achievement Award in 2008. Howe passed away in 2016.

Gretzky is the all-time leading scorer in NHL history. Alex Ovechkin is currently chasing Gretzky’s all-time goal scoring mark. The Great One finished his career with nearly 1,500 NHL games played, 894 goals and 1,963 assists for 2,857 points.
Gretzky won it all during his illustrious career, including four Cups with the Edmonton Oilers dynasty of the 1980s, the Art Ross ten times, the Conn Smythe twice, the Hart nine times, the Lady Byng five times, the Lester Patrick once, and the Ted Lindsay five times.
Curiously enough, Gretzky never won the Calder as he was deemed ineligible for the award due to the time he played in the WHA.
