A Look at the Three Most Annoying Fanbases in the NHL: Can Anyone Dethrone the Toronto Maple Leafs? 

Annoying fanbases are just a part of the sport, with the NHL having its fair share of obnoxious and oblivious supporters across the league. Much like the Dallas Cowboys fanbase in the NFL or the Los Angeles Lakers in the NBA, there are some notoriously infuriating groups of fans that have become more of a punchline.

While every franchise can have an argument made for their fans being the worst in the league, three teams stand out above the rest as being the most annoying across the league. Here is a look at the three worst fanbases across the National Hockey League.

3. The Montreal Canadiens

While having one of the most annoying fanbases across the league may be unsurprising, it's also a group that can be given some leeway. The Montreal Canadiens supporters are among the most obnoxious around the league, however, given the fact that the franchise has 23 Stanley Cup titles (10 more than the second-place team), they could be forgiven.

While opponents will argue that they have not won a title since 1993, it's impossible to deny the winningest franchise in NHL history. Though the team's fans have hung on to the past, an appearance in the 2021 Stanley Cup final re-ignited their obnoxiousness amongst Montreal Canadiens fans.

2. The New York Rangers

It may come as no surprise that fans of the New York Rangers are among the most annoying in their respective leagues. The New York Rangers have been voted one of the most aggressively obnoxious fanbases in the NHL. Not only are some of the supporters completely delusional each season, but like most New York fanbases, they are quick to turn on their own players.

1. The Toronto Maple Leafs

A fan survey conducted by Twitter user JFresh Hockey revealed that Leafs' fans are considered to make up the most annoying fanbase in the NHL. A series of questions were designed to find out which fans were the most delusional and whether hockey media paid enough attention to their favorite team. Unsurprisingly, the Toronto Maple Leafs' fanbase was voted the most annoying in the league.

From delusional takes from the media, Auston Matthews fanboys, and the general obnoxiousness of the fans, the Maple Leafs being named number one may come as no surprise.

For a team that has not won a Stanley Cup since 1967, fans have claimed it to be the best franchise in the league. While the crowd may think so, the club has struggled to make an impact in the playoffs, with the running joke being their failure in the first round every season.
