The Anaheim Ducks are a professional ice hockey team based in Anaheim, California and compete in the Western Conference of the National Hockey League (NHL) as a member of the Pacific Division. Founded in 1993 as the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, they were formed as an expansion team alongside the Florida Panthers.

Interestingly, their name was inspired by the Disney movie “The Mighty Ducks” and began play in the 1993-94 season. Since then, they have qualified for the playoffs 14 times and won the coveted Stanley Cup in the 2006-07 season. Notable players involved in that triumph included Scott Niedermayer, Brad May, Teemu Selänne and Jean-Sebastien Giguere. Moreover, their most continued period of sustained success came between 2013-2017, where they claimed five consecutive division titles. Since then, they have largely endured a playoff drought, with their last appearance in the playoffs coming in 2017-18.

Anaheim Ducks Conference History

Since their establishment in 1993, initially as the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, they have competed against other Western Conference teams while staying in the Pacific Division. Over the years, the Ducks have experienced fluctuations in performance, including periods of dominance and rebuilding. Despite facing challenges, they have consistently remained a formidable contender in the Western Conference, with notable achievements such as winning the Stanley Cup in 2006-07 and securing multiple division titles.

In the 1996–97 season, they displayed promise by clinching the Conference Quarterfinals against the Coyotes but faced disappointment with a 0–4 loss to the Red Wings in the Conference Semifinals. The Ducks experienced a significant breakthrough in the 2002–03 campaign, marked by a triumphant journey through the playoffs, securing victories against formidable opponents like the Red Wings and the Stars before ultimately falling short in the Stanley Cup Finals against the Devils. The 2006–07 season proved to be historic for the Ducks, as they powered through the playoffs to claim their first Stanley Cup in franchise history, defeating the Senators in the Finals.
