Are John Tavares' days in a New York Islanders uniform numbered? 

The clock might not only be ticking on the New York Islanders season, but it also might be ticking on John Tavares's tenure with them as well. The New York Islanders lost against on Thursday Night against the Washington Capitals 7-3. New York has went 1-5-4 in their last ten games.

The Islanders are 10 points back of the New Jersey Devils for the second wild-card spot and New York is currently in last in the Metropolitan Division with a 30-30-10 record with 70 points.

With the Islanders on the possible verge of missing the postseason for the third time in five seasons, is it time that John Tavares leaves the New York Islanders? If I were him, I would leave that franchise. Other than Mathew Barzal, does he have any other appealing pieces for Tavares to stay?

Tavares doesn't have any other appealing pieces for him to stay because the front office is a mess and the Islanders refuse to get rid of general manager Garth Snow. They think mediocrity is okay in New York and Tavares has been in the NHL long enough to realize he needs a winning culture.

Tavares is an unrestricted free agent at the end of the seasons. It is possible he goes back home and plays for the Toronto Maple Leafs. Tavares is from Mississauga, Ontario. Toronto is starting to develop a winning culture with the young players they have.

He would probably get his $8 million or $9 million that he wants, but Toronto needs to realize they still have to pay Auston Matthews, Mitchell Marner, and others.

It doesn't matter where Tavares plays in 2018-2019 and beyond, he just wants to play for a stable franchise that doesn't have to play in two different home venues. The Islanders would miss his offensive skill. He has scored 31 goals and recorded 38 assists in 70 games so far this season. Tavares has scored 266 goals and recorded 340 assists in 657 career games.
