The Arizona Coyotes were a professional ice hockey team based in the Phoenix metropolitan area. Notably, they used to compete in the National Hockey League (NHL) under the Central Division of the Western Conference. Moreover, the Coyotes were owned by Alex Meruelo and played its home games at Mullet Arena.

As of May 2024, the operations of the Arizona Coyotes are officially suspended and can join the NHL if they can secure a new arena by 2029. In the meantime, a deal was brokered between (now) former Coyotes owner Alex Meruelo, the National Hockey League and Ryan Smith. The Coyotes have been moved to Salt Lake City for the creation of a Utah NHL team with the majority of Coyotes' intellectual rights retained by Alex Meruelo concerning his ongoing efforts to build a new arena. If the Coyotes are to secure a new arena by 2029, they will be reinstated with all their previous records, history and intellectual property rights. However, if they are unable to secure a new arena, their operations will be suspended permanently with the cessation of the Coyotes franchise.

Arizona Coyotes Division History

The Arizona Coyotes have a sole Division Championship to their name. This division championship came in 2011-12 when they were playing under the Western Conference of the Pacific Division as the Phoenix Coyotes. They finished the regular season with an impressive 42 wins, 27 losses, and 13 overtime losses, accumulating 97 points. In the same year, they advanced to the Conference Finals for the first time in franchise history. However, they haven't been able to replicate that success since. Notably, they came close on three prior occasions, all as the Phoenix Coyotes in the 1998-99, 2001-02, and 2009-10 seasons.
