Auston Matthews is an American professional ice hockey player. As of January 2025, he plays as a center and captain for the Toronto Maple Leafs in the National Hockey League. He played with the USA Hockey National Team Development Program and the Swiss National League's ZSC Lions before beginning his professional career.
Matthews made NHL history with four goals in his debut and won the Calder Memorial Trophy in his rookie season. He claimed the Maurice "Rocket" Richard Trophy in 2020–21 and set records for most goals (60 goals) in a season by an American-born player and a Maple Leafs player in 2021–22. He has won the Maurice "Rocket" Richard Trophy three times (2021, 2022, 2024) and the Hart Trophy one time in 2022. Matthews has earned seven All-Star honors throughout his career, as of January 2025.
