The Florida Panthers secured a 4-1 win over the Utah Hockey Club on Wednesday night at the Delta Center, handing the Hockey Club its seventh loss in its last eight games.
Jesper Boqvist notched two goals for the Panthers, with Sam Reinhart adding a power play tally and Eetu Luostarinen scoring the Cats' second empty-netter. Meanwhile, Logan Cooley provided the lone goal for the Utah Hockey Club.
Here are three main reasons why the Florida Panthers triumphed over the Utah Hockey Club on Wednesday night:
3 reasons why Florida Panthers won over Utah Hockey Club
#1 The Panthers dominated the game
Despite the close score until late in the third period, the Florida Panthers dominated the game. They outshot Utah 33-27, won over 50% of the draws and outhit the Hockey Club 34-26.
Most importantly, the Panthers scored on their lone power play opportunity, while limiting the Hockey Club to just one power play goal out of four chances. That goal put Utah on the board and kept the game close down the stretch.
While the Utah Hockey Club deserves credit for staying competitive until the 18-minute mark of the third period, the Panthers ultimately proved too much for the young and upstart Utah team.
#2 Bobrovsky shined
Florida Panthers netminder Sergei Bobrovsky was at his best, stopping 26 of 27 shots in the win. The Hockey Club just couldn’t get past Bobrovsky on Wednesday night, especially during their third-period push.
Notably, Florida's defense played a tight game, minimizing Utah's chances to score on rebounds, deflections or scrambles in front of the net. The solid defensive effort allowed Bobrovsky to focus on making initial saves, with his defense taking care of the rest.
#3 Boqvist scores twice
Jesper Boqvist had an outstanding game, scoring two goals. He scored the eventual game-winner early in the third period, giving the Panthers a 2-0 lead. Although the Hockey Club got on the board midway through the third, the Panthers pulled away for good.
Boqvist added one of two empty-net goals to seal the victory, helping Utah earn two crucial points as they chase the Toronto Maple Leafs in the Atlantic Division standings.
The Panthers are now four points behind the Leafs and will look to continue closing the gap when they face the Boston Bruins on Saturday night in an Atlantic Division showdown. The Panthers aim to secure their second consecutive win, after going 6-4-0 in their last 10 games.
