After completing his high school education Brandon joined the Wenatchee Wild in the NAHL for the 2013-2014 season. However, in 2014, he decided to focus on his studies and went to Niagara University.

At 19, he again hit the ice, not as a player but as an official. Influenced by his friends, he started his official journey from local youth and high school games and progressed in leagues like Greater Ontario Hockey League (GOJHL) and NA3HL.

His skills and talent were recognized, and he got an opportunity to officiate the D1 college games for the Atlantic Hockey League.

In 2017, Schrader attended the NHL Officiating Combine to showcase his skills to the recruiting staff. He was offered a contract in the AHL during the 2017-2018 season where he officiated the Calder Cup Playoffs while he was still in the Niagara University.

Recognizing his potential, the NHL again offered him a Minor League Referee Contract in the summer of 2018. Transitioned to the NHL, Brandon made his debut on March 1, 2019, featuring the Philadelphia Flyers and the New Jersey Devils.
